Our Mission: Provide customers a safe and memorable experience in the Okanogan National Forest that allows them the opportunity to experience its beauty during the winter months through the safe utilization of snowmobiles.
Doug grew up in the foothills of the Central Cascade Mountains snowmobiling with his family. After retiring from the Navy, Doug and his family moved to Winthrop to enjoy all that the Methow Valley has to offer. In his free time, Doug enjoys spending time with his family and volunteers with the local fire department.
Owner of Snowmobile Winthrop
Snowmobile Winthrop’s mission is to ensure the customer has a safe, comfortable, and memorable experience.
As owner of Snowmobile Winthrop, Doug spends a lot of time on the snow! His passion for snowmobiling is apparent from the moment you meet him. His experience ensures you will arrive back after a great day of riding with a smile on your face and a desire to go again soon!
Customers will drive to a previously designated Sno-Park and find the "SNOWMOBILE WINTHROP" trailer. From there you and/or your party will get outfitted in appropriate attire and be given a tutorial on snowmobile operation as needed. If you have any questions or concerns they will be answered or addressed at this time.
Snowmobiling IS NOT inherently dangerous. It can be dangerous if you disregard trail conditions, ride faster than conditions allow and beyond your skill level. If you're not familiar with snowmobiles or it's been a long time since you last rode, best to hire a guide to go with you.
Everything to spend a day in the Wilderness is available when you choose Snowmobile Winthrop. If you have your own gear (boots / gloves / etc) that you would like to use, you are encouraged to do so.
On guided rides, we will ride only as fast as the slowest person (typically 10-15 mph for first time snowmobilers). Very common for the least experienced person to become more comfortable with the snowmobile as the day progresses and faster travel occurs.
Yes, be sure to mention it while booking your reservation. If you bring your own snowmobile, you will still be part of our tour and will be expected to follow the guides like all guests. If your snowmobile breaks down, our guides will do their best to help, but you are ultimately responsible for your machine. Our guides only carry spare parts for our Ski-Doo snowmobiles.
Great question! If you are newer to snowmobiling and could use a refresher on how to operate the machine, or would like to have a guide present in case something happens to the snowmobile, then our guided tours are perfect for you.
If you are very comfortable on snowmobiles and want to go fast and know how to fix your snowmobile if something happens, then a rental would be a great option for you.
We are located in Winthrop but all tours/rentals and in person interactions will occur at the designated sno-park that is chosen for that day's ride (Boulder Creek / Eight Mile / Goat Creek / Etc). A quick google search will provide directions on how to get to any of the local Sno-Parks.
Drivers must be at least 16 with a valid driver's license (and parental permission). No age restrictions for passengers. The weight restriction is 475 pounds per machine maximum.
Let Snowmobile Winthrop help make the memories your family will always remember!
